Salzburg Research Forschungsgesellschaft is the non-profit research organisation of the state of Salzburg, Austria. It conducts applied research in ICT with specific competencies in knowledge management, location based computing and e-health. Salzburg Research presently employs 75 people across the research areas advanced networking, knowledge and media technologies, innovation research, and mobile and web-based information systems. Founded in 2000, the company has a proven track record as project coordinator of many international and national research and development projects. The CONFIDENCE-project will be coordinated by the company’s research group for mobile and web-based information systems (MOWI). This research group focuses on geographic information systems, mobility supporting services on smartphones, and solutions for the optimisation of tour planning. The research activities of the group include research on pedestrian navigation, spatiotemporal models, mobility safeguarding assistance system, efficient methods for the analysis of sensor data, methods for evaluation and assessment of localisation technologies and optimisation methods for transport logistics. Currently there is a strong focus on mobility safeguarding assistance system for the elderly including market and feasibility studies and cooperative national research projects. In addition, expertise on social media and community building to develop the community portal will be provided by the company’s innovation research group.
